   I saw the films before I attempted to read through all the books. For   
   me, the books are primitive, aimed at the youth audience and not very   
   well put together.   
      
   Rowling is selling fantasy and if you get yours off on fantasy books,   
   then have at it. FWIIW, I detested Tolkein too.   
      
   In her defense, the Harry Potter world she has conjured up is quite   
   amazing, rich in detail, mystery and character development. Which imo   
   shows up best in the movies.
