   It does appear that teachers have complete choices in the textbooks they   
   use. Hagrid did the monster book. Lockhart did several of his own books   
   [I had a couple professors do that in college; one of them you had tear   
   out a "test page" from the book for each test... so you could even buy   
   the book used]
