The first 2 books in the HP series can be a little "childish" if you
are an adult. But I enjoyed them anyway. They are definitely a fast
paced read, but Rowling remains that way throughout, not because
she's "simple", but because for the most part (except perhaps for
OoTP and DH), she paces the books nicely. There's not a lot of
filler, she keeps the story moving towards the conclusion.

Goblet of Fire is the best of the series IMHO. If you like a good
mystery, I thought she did a wonderful job ¡V my jaw totally dropped
when I got to the end ¡V I totally didn't see it coming at all.
