In each book, Harry travels forward in his seek. Think of each book as
an alchemist would...as Jan van Rijckenborgh did in his explanatory
The Alchemical Wedding ("TCW") of Christian Rosycross ("CRC").

In TCW, CRC ascends the Tower Of Olympus each level representative of
the 7 Cosmic *Sub*Planes. Except the TOW has an eight, hidden level
   (plane).

These planes compose man's consciousness, his personality if you will
and they are within Harry. As we read from book to book, Harry frees
himself from each plane. We call this the liberation of man. Harry is
seeking his liberation just as CRC did.
