From: rclovely@aol.com              It was a long and sometimes rocky road for Glymm Mere to achieve Baronial       Status. The modern requests for elevation had been presented to the BOD, the       Kingdom Seneschal, their Majesties and their consent was given for elevation.               The ceremonial petitions were ready, the coronets fitted and the regalia       finished. The ceremony, planned by our Herald, Lord David of Moffet, had been       rehearsed. We were ready.              We were to be elevated at Blath An Oir’s Twelfth Night 1993, at the last court       of Darius and Jacintha. When we were called to court we processed in with       Lord Valerian the Innocent carrying the Shire Banner before us. I, as       Seneschal, dressed in Tudor        finery, followed him escorted by David. Lord Fergus and Lady Gwendolyn       Fitzallan, our Baron and Baroness Designate, followed me dressed in Glymm       Mere’s blue and yellow. The rest of the populace, dressed in their Twelfth       Night best, followed the Shire        Officers in their Baldrics of Office. There must have been thirty of us       there.                 We knelt before their Majesties and I presented the Ceremonial Petition. They       gave it to David to read. It was long, I was tired. My mind started to       wander and I started thinking “Thank God for corsets, I can’t slump”. I then       realized there was no        sound in the hall but David reading the petition. About five hundred people       were totally quiet. When David’s voice lifted and he proclaimed “Glymm Mere       will be a Shire no more”, there was a collective intake of breath. When their       Majesties accepted our        petition and handed me the Charter there were cheers.               Fergus and Gendolyn were then called to approach their Majesties. They were       attended by four maids of honor, Two carrying the cloaks and two carrying the       coronets, on pillows. They were invested as Baron and Baroness and when they       were presented to the        populace, the “hazzas” could have brought down the roof.               Since then, I have held other offices and other titles in the Barony, the       Western Region and the Kingdom. But, the office and title of which I am most       proud is the Last Seneschal of the Shire / First Seneschal of the Barony of       Glymm Mere.              HL Marguerite of Kenneydell               --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
