In the movie, Hagrid shows Harry, Ron, and Hermione his hatching dragon's egg,       and then Draco sees it (and goes off to tattletale on the other three). The       next we know, the 4 kids have been sentenced to detention, and Dumbledore has       sent the baby dragon        off to a colony. But why wasn't Hagrid punished for possessing the dragon's       egg? McGonagal admits that Draco's motives were honorable, but Draco is still       in trouble for being out of bed. (Hogwarts, where no good deed goes       unpunished?).              In the book, IIRC, Neville (not Ron) was one the the 4 in detention. Harry       and Hermione helped Hagrid smuggle the dragon away, without Dumbledore knowing       about it. Neville had tried to warn Harry and Hermione that Dracon was onto       them. Draco tried to        tell McGonagal about the dragon, but I think that she thought that Harry et al       had made up the dragon story to get Draco in trouble. That would explain why       Draco lost only 20 points, whereas the other three lost 50 points each!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
