Recenly I saw a film adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (yes, I watch
good movies, too!). It occurred to me that Act 5, Scene 1 has an excellent
example of MSTing, with Theseus, Lysander, and Hippolyta riffing the
play-within-a-play, the romantic tragedy "Pyramus and Thisbe".

Certainly there must be other examples of MSTing before 1988. Does anyone
know of an example that predates Shakespeare's time?
