Nothing.
While this claim surfaces from time to time, not a one of the folks
making it seems to be bright enough to figure out just how silly a claim
it is.
For example, looking at the people on both sides of the equation -
theists and atheists - we note that the vast majority of them have hair;
obviously, it's hair that causes people to kill. Stupid, right?
They fail to grasp this one basic point: there's a difference between
correlation and causation. Or, more plainly, there's a difference
between "an atheist" killing someone, and his killing someone in the name
of atheism.
Since atheism has no credo, there's nothing in atheism to suggest "go
kill the other guy" - unlike a number of religious credos.
At best, these boneheads will point out that someone like, oh, Stalin
will a) adopt atheism as an official viewpoint, and b) kill a lot of
people. Yes, well, crazy lunatic power-mad psychos do that sort of
thing. Why they blame this on atheism rather than the lunatic isn't
quite clear.
Well, actually, it is. Since their own views are based on credos which
require or condone endless killing, they have to make themselves look...
well... not good, but less bad, by showing that "the other guy is just as
bad".
The fact that the other guy doesn't adhere to a belief system which
either commands or condones killing doesn't seem to register with them.
They are, after all, not very bright folks.
