This is true, but a study by the Blue Cross revealed at least half of
those uninsured are capable of getting some sort of coverage either
through existing government entities or are able to afford coverage for
   themselves.

As a personal example, my employer provides us with coverage. It's not
great coverage, but it's satisfactory for most of us. Some have spouses
who have better coverage, so my employer pays them a higher wage to
compensate them for not being on our plan and instead, their spouses.

We have one employee who is married and had three children. To get the
higher wage, he opted out of our healthcare coverage. His wife didn't
work so she had no coverage either. When his daughter became ill with
diabetes, he was frantic. Somehow, he got the state to pay for all her
medical care in spite of his refusal to use the coverage our company
   provided.

My coworker and his family of five are part of this so-called 40 million
without healthcare coverage, and I'm sure there are many more just like
   him--especially among younger adults.

So do we have a problem with people unable to be covered, or do we have
a problem with people not taking responsibility to be covered? It's
probably half and half if you ask me. But that does not justify
destroying the medical care system we have for this very small
   percentage of our population.
