   Like I said, except for being modernized, it also looked like they chose   
   the east coast of USA as an homage to Orson Welles's broadcast. There was a   
   couple homages to the George Pal movie, the best one at the end, almost a   
   perfect copy.

   It was suggested they did come from Mars in this movie, because the camera   
   focused on a red planet in the beginning, when talking about us being   
   studied from afar.   
      
   Nowhere in the movie did it say anything about them not being from Mars.
