   It's very common, particularly in Tokyo, for people to go to high   
   schools that are quite far from their home (as much as an hour commute   
   or more).  A real-life Ami would go to the best possible high school   
   she could within a reasonable daily commute.  It just wouldn't make   
   sense for her to study her ass off and then go to Juuban -- it would   
   be like someone in the US working really hard to get all A's, getting   
   1600 on the SATs, and then going to a regional campus of a state   
   college.  It's not impossible, but it's unusual.
