   Apparently they *do* do this after a certain point - witness the single   
   episode I noted in which Jadeite did succeed, in which the scheme had   
   been going on for some days (perhaps even weeks) before Usagi stumbled   
   across it - but this point is measured in days at the least, which is   
   very rarely sufficient.   
      
   Beyond that, and especially given that there is at least one other   
   scheme which apparently lasted quite some time undiscovered (the   
   Midnight Zero love-letter radio show), the only thing I can suggest is   
   raw egotism.
