   I think it shows that he basically considers her a kid; I would not   
   expect in general that a college-age male would use particularly   
   polite language in talking to a middle-school-age female no matter   
   what their actual relationship. The younger a person is, the less   
   likely it is that anyone will use polite language when speaking to or   
   about them. Mamoru has been speaking using non-polite language since   
   episode 1 so the plain "Usagi" isn't that surprising -- what I find   
   more surprising is that he actually used her name. This may be the   
   first time in the series he calls her Usagi instead of "odango atama".

   Do you have those on tapes or something? I haven't seen the DiC dub   
   in at least 9 years, possibly 10.
