I haven't seen the DiC dub       >in at least 9 years, possibly 10.              Actually, I do. In fact, it is a taping of the very first run where       they initially skipped the Doom Tree arc because they were hoping to       market it as a stand-alone set.              However, that VHS set is packed away and I'm currently watching it on       DVD. I happened onto some sort of super sale a couple of years ago and       bought the whole 14 volumes (first two seasons) of the ADV/DiC dub for       $5 a disk.              I'm hoping that I may be able to make some comparisons between the two       as we go along. For example, in this episode where Umino/Melvin is       speaking after Usagi leaves the art gallery, in the original, he is       insinuating that he may be starting to like Naru now. In the dub, he       is still pining after Usagi/Serena.              It seem to me that these translations must have been done one episode       at a time without looking ahead to consider the gradual character       development that took place. So changing this line meant nothing if       you just look at the one episode. However, it obscures the gradual       transition that Umino is undergoing.              In fact, I can see that these translations blunt the entire story.       Sure, it is still a wonderful story, but it is like you are watching       it through foggy glasses. Things that are so clear in the original are       dulled or missing altogether in the dub.              --       Phoenix       www.phoenixanime.com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
