The scene switches to the senshi hiding in       the bushes where Rei whispers in disbelief that Serena would actually       be willing to give up the wand. As Serena struggles against the sash       choking her, she starts to think that the other sensei really did want       to get rid of her, that this was all a setup by them (In the dub, this       plan was apparently a group decision, not a plan by Serena). In that       fateful moment where Rei reveals that she has the stick, she says that       Serena forgot it in her room, so she kept it (apparently to keep       Serena from giving it up).              In the original, Usagi/Serena kept begging the other senshi to stay       away, to let her be captured. In the dub, she kept begging for them to       come help her.              When it was all over, Serena asked Rei why she took her stick and why       they waited so long to save her. Rei said that Serena stupidly left it       under her bed and they were delaying help so they could get a reading       on the warp hole.              In every sense, the dub had completely cheapen and demeaned the       character of both Serena and Rei. For Serena, it showed her losing       faith in the senshi and losing heart enough to want to abandon the       mission in mid-stream. For Rei, it showed her having lost complete       faith in Serena (truly believing that Serena would give up the crystal       if not for Rei's intervention). She also callously allowed Serena to       be choked to nearly to death so they could get some dubious readings       on the warp hole (There was no talk of getting readings in the       original).              It's almost like the English writers are going out of their way to       take the heart and soul out of the original version. I just can't       understand why. Do they honestly believe that western kids would not       be able to connect with characters that truly loved and respected each       other?              --       Phoenix       www.phoenixanime.com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
