What I meant is that Doom Tree wasn't at all part of the manga, while all
the oter story arcs were (at least in some way). It was created for the
anime to give Naoko-sensei time to get further along in the manga story.
Once that arc was done the anime roughly follows the manga again. It has
often been reported that Naoko-sensei was very unhappy with the doom tree
   story line.
