The Moonlight Knight appears       >                     And the arrival of the Moonlight Knight. Mamoru goes through a lot of       different identities and personalities through the series, but this is       one of the ones I like the least. The whole thing just feels forced.       And he looks ridiculous in that getup.              Seriously, just what in the world is in Mamoru’s subconscious that keeps       generating these costumes? Is this something else from the distant       past, or was he just exposed to lots of really bad television as a kid       or something?              I know why Moonlight Knight has to exist. The anime writers were       caught, they couldn’t risk taking Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship in one       direction, only to find out that Naoko had written it going somewhere       else, so they had to put in a place holder, hence the amnesia/Moonlight       Knight persona. It puts them back in a comfortable place and stalls       everything with regard to Usagi and Mamoru until they’re ready to join       back up with the manga storyline. It’s annoying, but there wasn’t much       of a way around it.              At least Usagi recognized him. I know she’s not quite bright, but come       on… Stands in tree branches, throws roses, makes corny speeches, that       narrows it down pretty quick, even with a few variations on the theme.              Anyway, sorry, I just had to rant a bit. Moving on to the rest of the       episode.              With the restoration of memories, the personalities of the girls have       also shifted back to where they were. Ami, who sounded ultra-shy last       episode, has no problem scolding Usagi for her poor study habits.              Shinozaki is a friend from Makoto’s childhood who has always been there       for her whenever times got bad. At the very beginning, he’s attacked by       the Monster of the Week, and is badly injured trying to shield Makoto       when she turns up. Makoto ends up giving him a transfusion to save his       life. It’s rather nice that they did pay attention to detail here. O       types can only accept blood from other Os, so the only possibilities       were Makoto, who volunteered, and Usagi, who suggested that she could       take over (though she'd have probably fainted at the sight of the needle       coming toward her ^_^; ). Ami couldn't do it, she's an A type.              It’s a little tough to tell, what with the whole episode’s animation       looking so awful, but Ami’s expression when she’s hearing about       Shinozaki seems to be going a bit beyond worry and distress toward dismay.              Even when she’s telling this story, Makoto makes no mention of her       family life. I just don’t think she really wants the others to know.              Usagi is truly upset at how weak Jupiter is, and she means it when she       wants her to just go home. I think on some level she’s still living in       the shadow of D-Point, even more so than they are. She’s terrified that       she’s going to have to watch one of them die again.              This is two monsters in a row that Usagi doesn’t take out. Don’t worry,       things will get back to formula soon.              It’s interesting, Shinozaki is one of the few exceptions to the rule for       Makoto, he doesn’t resemble her sempai at all, maybe because he predates       the creep? Regardless, she’s known him so long that she doesn’t think       of him romantically at all.              Sadly, with barely a half dozen lines spoken, he drops off the face of       the earth after this episode. Good side characters are so hard to come by…              SK              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
