|    200 Days of Sailor Moon - Episode 89    |

From: chriskern99@gmail.com              Episode 89 -              I think most people already know this, but unlike shows in the US,       Japanese television shows are almost always run continuously from       start to finish, with only two breaks -- a week or two around New       Year's, and a week or two around Golden Week (late April-early May).       All 200 episodes of SM were run back to back with only these breaks;       there were no breaks between the seasons. Because of this type of       schedule, the animators often have to cut corners and use techniques       to save time and money -- the two most common techniques are stock       footage and clips episodes. For clips episodes, the challenge for the       series designers is always to frame the clips in some manner that       makes the viewers want to watch them, while at the same time not       introducing so much new footage that it defeats the purpose. (It's       not quite as problematic because for the Japanese viewers, it had been       well over a year and a half since the series began.)              Sailor Moon uses a lot of stock footage, but this is the only clips       episode in the series. There is no new animation, but the 4th-wall       breaking voice overs by the senshi provide some interest. All in all,       though, it's not that interesting of an episode, so there's really not       much to comment about it.              Many Japanese sites do not have this listed as an episode of SMR but       as a "special" in between R and S -- indeed, the episode itself uses       only "Sailor Moon" (without the R) and does not use the theme song or       the standard eyecatches.              -Chris              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
