From: chriskern99@gmail.com              S -              S was pretty much as good as I remember. After this rewatch I still       maintain my opinion that the second half of the season is superior to       the first. The second half is much darker, and the themes more       present and mature (as I said, here we're talking about killing an       actual specific person rather than just some hypothetical holder of a       talisman). The conclusion is markedly different from the Classic and       R ones, relying more on psychological and ideological conflict rather       than just Sailor Moon aiming her wand at the bad guy and an       inspirational song playing.              I like Sailor Saturn as she was portrayed in this season. I think       that when they brought her back in Stars they sort of changed her       character a bit in response to her popularity, but I like the idea of       this senshi that isn't really like the other ones, that only arises in       a time of great need, and has a lot of power but kills herself in the       process.              SuperS -              This season has always been interesting because, while most people who       had actually seen the season said it was good, many people who had not       seen it were convinced it was the worst of the seasons. People were       disappointed that it didn't have the Outer Senshi. They were under       the impression that Chibi-Usa had much more screen time than any other       character. It was supposedly kiddy-friendly and "sickly sweet" (to       use a phrase I remember from one criticism). Of course none of these       (other than the absence of the outer senshi) are really accurate       descriptions of the season. I also avoided the season for a long time       because of what people said about it, but when I actually did watch it       I enjoyed it a lot. Sure, it's mostly filler (although I still don't       think it has as much filler as Classic). But the filler is very high       quality and brings back a lot of minor characters that the series had       dropped during S. Plus it has Nehelenia, who is played by my favorite       voice actor (Yoshiko Sakakibara).              However, I have only seen the complete season once, on small real       media files. I got the tapes a long time ago but only rewatched the       Amazon Trio arc. I also remember watching the final episodes in       something of a rush, since I vaguely recall I was trying to finish the       season before I had to leave on break or something like that. I don't       remember liking the conclusion all that much but we'll see what I       think this time.              By the way, there was a long standing debate about what the name of       this season is. There's really no debate except by people who do not       know Japanese -- it's both written (in Japanese) and pronounced in the       show as "Supers", not "Super S". "Super S" is a phantom of English       speakers who see the second capitalized S and assume it's meant to       stand alone.              -Chris              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
