In a way that makes the implicit message even worse because it makes
Pegasus look like a manipulator. As far as I can tell, there's no
story internal reason why Pegasus only reveals his past when he does.
I mean, it's pretty clear that he wanted to wait until he could really
trust Chibi-Usa but I don't see what changed between now and episode
158 -- except that C-U showed Pegasus she's willing to let him dictate
   the terms of their friendship.

So what we have here is that Pegasus refuses to tell Chibi-Usa about
his background when she asks him, and shows her that he is completely
prepared to leave her alone, in an instant, if she presses the issue.
She finally apologizes and he comes back, and then very soon after
that he tells her about his background on his own. I doubt the
writers intended it to come off like this, but what it really looks
like is that Pegasus had no problem with telling C-U his background
but he just wanted it to be clear that he was doing it because *he*
wanted to, not because Chibi-Usa asked. Almost as if Pegasus is
saying "Now that you understand the way things work, I'll tell you as
much of my background as I want, but if you try to press further you
know what's going to happen." And indeed she gets the message loud
and clear; in episode 159 she tells Pegasus that she's not going to
   ask about him anymore.

(I think the message the writers were perhaps trying to send is that
people have secrets they can't tell, and when you have a friend with a
secret you should let them tell you on their own, if they want to,
rather than making it a condition of your friendship that they tell
you all their secrets. But to me the way the show handled it
transmits something of a darker message.)
