   Darth Maul wasn't ready to take an apprentice and was still "loyal" (or as   
   loyal as Sith can be) to Sidious.   
      
   Count Dooku believed he was ready and mistakingly thought that they could   
   defeat and take over from Sidious.   
      
   Vader also tried to turn Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side and again defeat   
   Sidious and rule the galaxy.
