Senator Amidala was aginst forming an army of the Republic but, in
light of the new events revelaed by Obi-Wan Kenobi, it was clear that
such an army was now vitally necessary. It wouldn't be easy to
persuade people to agree to its formation however unless someone like
Senator Amidala could change her mind thereby convincing others to do
   the same.

The villains didn't want Padme dead, only Nute Gunray did.

That was Bultar Swan. She was in the ring of survivors as Yoda arrived
   with the clone army.

   >Even more obscure: who was the Jedi who threw Obiwan's saber to him?

Nicanas Tassu and Sephjet Josall are the two Jedi who throw weapons to
   Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan never knew Dooku as Tyranus.
