That seems like it could have been the point of       that exact scene. The excessive back-and-forth blastings didn't seem       to take much toll on the interior of the Death Star.                     Except that, when 3PO started to walk into that room on Cloud City (and saw       what he shouldn't have), he was blasted to pieces. And it was clear that it       WAS a blaster, because we HEARD the sound of a blaster.                     Not to mention that when the Jawas fire that 'energy weapon' at R2 on       Tattooine, it scrambles his circuits and knocks him out.                     So obviously droids (and by extension, metal) are not immune to blaster fire       (unless, I suppose, they have individual force fields, which 3PO and R2       don't. Who [n.N..] would waste the investment of money or time giving THEM       a protective force field for no foreseeable useful reason?)              Point is, here's heavy blaster fire going on ALL AROUND 3PO and R2. Not ONE       shot hits them. Yet it's sufficiently accurate to take out various rebels,       & stormtroopers, who are wearing protective armor (as for not damaging the       Death Star's interiors, I would assume that it was made of military-grade       materials; after all, heavy weapons fire or a torpedo can fatally damage a       commercial vessel, like the LUSITANIA, yet a naval vessel, like the       BISMARCK, built with heavy military-grade armor plating and side & deck       protection designed to withstand enemy fire, would shrug off the same damage       which took out the commercial vessel easily. The Death Star would have been       DESIGNED to take enemy fire. The TANTIVE wouldn't, or would have very       limited protection, probably not sufficient in the case of armed boarders.       Recall that one blast from a star destroyer took out her engines with ease.       Same way a capital ship easily would ANY merchantman).                            --              --Acolyte of Glorious La Parka~---Has apparently WAY too much time on his       hands tonight.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
