   This seems to me extremely likely. Jackson likes to wrap up smaller   
   stories within the larger story. The idea of "Thank goodness we survived   
   crossing the mountains" combined with the image of the party walking   
   into Mirkwood and dwindling slowly into the darkness will no doubt be   
   what Jackson goes for. The audience will be expected to feel dread on   
   two fronts: while the dwarves face the dangers of Mirkwood, the Council   
   will be getting ready to take on the Necromancer.   
      
   I don't happen to believe that Jackson understands subtlety...
