I often find that new perspectives are being offered by others -- in
general I find new perspectives offered by people who have spent even
more time than myself on studying Tolkien's work and its context.

I will, however, gladly acknowledge that my interest in such new
perspectives is fuelled by 'a genuine and undimmed enthusiasm for the
source material' -- /undimmed/, mind, since claiming an /unchanged/
enthusiasm would be in error: my enthusiasm for Tolkien's work has
certainly changed quite a lot in the decade in which I have moved on
to study it more seriously, but with increased knowledge and
understanding has come an even greater enthusiasm (though also an
   enhanced appreciation of the weaknesses).

Ah, the fatal power for corruption that the Black Enemy instilled in
particular in gold (and which seems to have spilled over into all
   later measures of wealth) :-)

Of course my interest is also fuelled by such, as I have already been
fortunate enough to receive all of two (2!) works on Tolkien for
'free' (paying only with the time needed to review them -- womething
which, counting only review time and not reading time, almost comes
to a quarter of my regular pay per hour . . .).

In this case the cause (not the 'hero') was triumphant,
because by the exercise of pity, mercy, and forgiveness of
injury, a situation was produced in which all was redressed
    and disaster averted.
