   Shorter and thicker, I think.  I picture them as kind of at the   
   extreme "stocky" end of the spectrum, maybe not recognizably non-   
   human to you or me but definitely not typical human.   
      
   I haven't seen Jackson's version of /The Hobbit/ (and I don't intend   
   to), but I will say that in Jackson's LotR part 1 he did make Rhys-   
   Davies look like a believable dwarf.
