      I was writing of those with the mental capacity to have compassion,   
   including the comprehension of another person as a person like oneself.  A   
   crocodile that grabs a child is incapable of comprehending the fear and   
   agony of the child being helplessly drawn underwater to drown with   
   bone-splintering jaws clamped about its legs, or the grief of the child's   
   family witnessing it from the bank.  A human who does likewise to a victim   
   is quite capable of comprehending this.
