When Aragorn and the hobbits arrived at Weathertop, one of them found
a hastily-scratched "G3", which Aragorn decided meant "Gandalf was here
on the third of October". His interpretation was correct, as we later
find out, and Gandalf met some Ring-wraiths at that time.

The name of the story is "A Sound of Thunder".
It was written by Ray Bradbury. You're welcome.
