   They were still running BlackGate OS, Celebrimbor didn't think of   
   a total rewrite of the basic software :-(   
      
   Seriously, I think the Rings were using the Morgoth element in   
   Arda as a power source, and so could not be totally free from   
   evil influence.  This is what added to Sauron's powers, and this   
   probably made them vulnerable to the One.
