   What was said by Tolkien in the Letters was kind of what I was looking   
   for.  Basically,you can call it a Pterodactyl if you like,or if you   
   prefer the wyvern answer, go for it. :)   
      
   In my mind, I see a pterodactyl of the sort depicted in media in the   
   late 70's and early 80's, since that was when I first read the book.   
   (Circa 1982 or 1983.)
