   Elrond was a Captain and Herald of Gil Galad.  He, along with Celeborn,   
   led the retreat from Eregion and conducted a guerilla campaign there   
   for many years.  He fought beside Gil Galad and Elendil at the Last   
   Alliance, and was there when they fell against Sauron.  I think that he   
   would have the abilities to train someone in fighting, hunting and   
   tracking.
