   I don't know of any such evidence, but Troels and others have a more   
   extensive acquaintance with HoME than I do.   
      
   Arguing _against_ Sauron's awareness is that the destruction of Rings   
   probably happened while he was in his coma state after having being   
   "cast down" by Elendil and Gil-Galad. He didn't "take shape" again   
   for two thousand years after that.   
      
   The three or four Rings that were destroyed were apparently eaten by   
   dragons. (Given that the One Ring caused a volcano to erupt, it's   
   surprising that the dragons weren't killed by their meal, but Gandalf   
   doesn't mention that.) I don't think we have any chronology for that,   
   but my impression has always been that it happened a long time before   
   Gandalf's conversation with Frodo in "The Shadow of the Past". But   
   how long ago?
