But his       motivations were somewhat different from Sauron's.              If Celebrimbor's original plan had been followed, the other sixteen       would have been used by Elves for preserving Middle-earth, as the       Three were. Sauron wasn't interested in that; he wanted to dominate.       And it was pretty clear he couldn't do that with Elves -- not because       they were immune, but because they recognized their vulnerability and       took off their Rings before they were trapped.              --       Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA        http://OakRoadSystems.com       Tolkien FAQs: http://Tolkien.slimy.com (Steuard Jensen's site)       Tolkien letters FAQ:        http://mysite.verizon.net/aznirb/mtr/lettersfaq.html       FAQ of the Rings: http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/ringfaq.htm       Encyclopedia of Arda: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.htm       more FAQs: http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/faqget.htm              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
