   What's Aragorn got to do with anything?  You had Elendil, Isildur and   
   Anarion.  You may be overestimating the impressiveness of Aragorn   
   compared to Elendil.   
      
   In terms of how he was defeated, you had the last alliance of Elves and   
   Men, led by Gil Galad and Elendil, and they had to lay seige to Barad   
   Dur for eight years, with who knows how many deaths before Sauron came   
   out to play.  He then slew both of the leaders before being dropped   
   himself.   
      
   What would you have been expecting?  D&D-style magic?  Fireballs at 60   
   paces?
