   Must avoid the bad habit of asking leading questions to a near-empty   
   audience. Anyway, I plump for longevity over special ability. Given   
   enough time (and an incurable travel bug), a hobbit could probably   
   learn the same number of languages. Perhaps, a dwarf could fashion   
   something akin to a ring of power eventually? Higher order beings   
   appear to have ordinary intellects when stripped of their power and   
   immortality.
