Certain Men were granted greater longevity than others...but note
that hobbits of any class apparently lived longer than lesser Men
if not so long as the Atani, and dwarves of any character longer still.

But the legendary feel of the longevity presented in the lesser reaches
is lessened by modern real examples of what was before but a dream.
How might future generations greet the tales if beating the Old Took
   becomes a common expectation?
