   I wrote on this subject earlier,but the Queen turned 93 today.   
   That is the age at which Eomer died after a reign of 65 years,   
   being second in age and length of reign among the Rohirrim only   
   to Aldor the Old (lived 2544-2645 TA,reigned from 2570).   
   When TLotR was published in the third year of the Queen's   
   reign (we are now in her sixty-eighth) no British monarch had   
   lived to turn 82 (George III and Victoria both died at 81).   
   Appendix A told of not only Aldor,but his son Frea (lived   
   2570-2659 TA,succeeded at 75...this year the Prince of Wales turns 71   
   which is as old as Theoden could be as he lived 2948-3019 TA),   
   Freawine (lived 2594-2680),Brytta(2752-2842),and Fengel(2870-2953),   
   all of whom lived longer than any British monarch HAD lived when   
   the book was published,but not as long as any British monarch   
   since it was published.   
      
   Tolkien painted a picture of ever-ebbing longevity,but future   
   readers will not be having the anticipated perspective.   
   May the Queen surpass all the men of Rohan and set to work   
   on the Hobbits and Dwarves!
