From: david_shayne@hotmail.com              Hello,              Yeas, I did my homework (because it is no longer a pure pleasure like       before) and I went to see Anything Else. What a bad movie !              On a premiere night, we were about 20 people in the audience and 15 of us       were teens that were there for Jason Biggs, I guess. In the middle of the       movie, about 8 young people left. I did not see the long hard-time fans with       the grey beards that I usually see even if Allen serves us another       "Hollywood Ending".              Needless to say, the screenplay is not inspired. Imagine a kind of "Annie       Hall" love affair mixed with a mother-in-law from Hannah and Her Sister, a       manager for has-been like in Broadway Danny Rose and a cocaine scene like in       Annie Hall. The guy is doing the same movie year after year with a screeplay       written in one week !              Of course, it is a verbal movie with almost no plot or action in the       screenplay. Just keep in mind that it is a story about a writer who will       decide to go California at the end. Meanwhile, he's having hard times with       his girlfriend who is weird a little. The secondary characters are going       nowhere. Also, the fact that you have 3 main characters (Ricci, Biggs and       Allen himself) playing a Woody Allen type of person is way too much !              The only thing I liked was the fact that Allen seemed to suggest that       analysis is just a way to tell your problems to someone who is never going       to say a thing on those problems. The only good moments are usually with       Allen, even he brought very boring and discouraging moments (remember him       trying to move the piano ? We are far from Sleeper here...).              The time when we used to say that a bad Allen movies was better that almost       80% of what is being released has ended. See any movies from 1974 to 1994       before seeing Anything Else. And prey that someone at Dreamworks will stop       spending millions to film such poor screenplays. What a shame !              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
