It's not simple at all, as you have glossed over the all-important
question, "What is the Living God"? It is pretty clear that we are all
genetically programmed, by evolution, to behave in social groups. That
requires us to sacrifice personal ambitions for the good of the group.
Before we understood evolution, it was hard to explain such programming,
so people invented a god as a way to explain an important mystery. Once
you have a god, people spend lifetimes trying to make their god into their
own image. Thus we have a god who is variously described as vengeful,
jealous, genocidal, kind, merciful, forgiving, indifferent, and even
   non-existent.

If you expect people to believe in YOUR god, it is necessary for you to
prove that your god is something more than a projection of your own
   insecurities.
