   Doesn't sound like they were out to kill him at all, but more likely to see   
   what the loon was going to do next.  He ran from the temple, embarrassed,   
   they went to see if he was going to  hurt himself.  He ran to the edge of a   
   cliff.  I'm sure someone following convinced him that he shouldn't hurt   
   himself and then he came back to his senses and they all left the cliffside   
   peacefully.  That's the way it is written in the bible passage.   If you see   
   something different than that, I suggest you don't understand what was   
   really going on.
