Did you just now figure this out? He is a very common psychological
type. In his personal lice he is an total non-entity whit no power,
influence, or sense of self worth. He is the type everyone ignores.
If he is one of two people in a room anyone entering would always talk
   to the other person.

Being a one track fanatic and answering in the manner he uses gives
him something he does not get anywhere else - attention. He feels he
has some control over this par of his life, which he does not have
   anywhere else.

He would never ever change the way he responds or change his position
on anything because to do so may result in no one noticing him enough
to do anything, even if it is to call him an idiot. What form that
notice takes is irrelevant - it is enough just to be noticed.

Drivers who stay in the left lane frequently share this
characteristic. They have no control over the rest of their lives,
and are complete non-entities. When they can block traffic and be
yelled at that at least indicates they are alive, and finally someone
notices them. They have some small bit of control over something - it
really does not matter what that something is.

The more people who respond to Winn the more he has succeeded, and the
longer the conversations or comments last the more successful he has
been. The content of the comments or conversation is irrelevant - it
is the attention they indicate that is critical.

   Pathetic.

   >simply ignore him from here on out,

That is the worst possible thing you could do to him, and the thing he
   fears most.

   >he's not worth it

   True

   > and I'm not going to
   >feed his need any longer.

Eventually everyone does this, and he disappears for a while. When he
come back a new group will jump on him and make him happy.
