From: solitude439@rcn.com              ...and this is the reason why more people are looking for alternatives to an       INSECURE operating system. Why is it that there's so many security holes in       Windows? The explanation I always get is that there are more PC users out       there than there are Mac or even Linux (although the Linux numbers are       increasing)! It just so happens that as the internet was becoming the       monster that it became, the Microsoft people wanted to build their software       around it without taking into consideration that there are hackers and       terrorists out there just waiting to plug into anyone's PC, anywhere and       anyway they can. Ergo, these security holes with Windows have been there       since the beginning. Also, the Mac has security issues as well but not so       much to where I have to update my Security functions every two weeks because       some internet terrorist decided to develop a monster email virus or try to       write code that will wipe any network user's hard drive clean.              Take a look at Staples, or at Office Max or Office Depot or any office       supply store or any place on the web or through a catalog that you can order       software. A small area is dedicated to the actual operating system being       sold, then you have a small area dedicated to the office and productivity,       and the rest is a big area (several shelves full, several pages, several web       sites) dedicated to anti-virus software, anti-spam software, pop-up blocking       software, crash guard software, email protection software, encryption       software, internet security, nortons, mcafee, Win Cleaner... yatta, yatta,       it's ridiculous! There should be one protection guard for your computer and       that's it!! Instead you have to buy all of this 3rd party software that       costs more than the computer itself! And these security software companies       are making money hand over fist (I wouldn't doubt MS has their hands in       their pocket either)!! It's not even worth it!!              I'm so glad I bought a Mac!! I learned everything about productivity on a       Mac years ago and I'm looking forward to the ease of use you get with a Mac       for years to come!              As for Windows, I'm sure it's going to end up being a case where they'll       just get too big for their britches. Especially in 2006 when this       "Longhorn" version is scheduled to hit the shelves. Let's see how many       people will be waiting in line for that!!              Thank you and God bless!              D.C.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
