   I trust the majority to choose the president because it's the worst   
   system except for all the others. I do not believe that the majority   
   very often picks the very best person in the whole country for the job   
   (George Washington was clearly the single best, and both Roosevelts   
   arguably were), but there are enough hoops to jump through that we   
   usually do reasonably okay.   
      
   There is absolutely no point in appealing to the wisdom of the majority   
   in matters of taste, unless you believe that Eminem is thousands of   
   times more gifted as a musician than Yo-Yo Ma and a Macdonald's burger   
   is better than Fillet Mignon on a price/performance basis.
