   ???

There is no such thing as Mac OS X 10.5.4. Maybe in two years from now...

   You previously said:

   >> If you right click (control click,
   >> whatever, one button mice suck too) on those selected files and pick

   And you again said:

   > Command-I does the same thing, an info window for each file.

This was true in Mac OS X 10.0 and 10.1. As of 10.2 Apple thankfully
went back to the way Mac OS worked, which is to give you a single
summary 'Get Info' window listing how many folders and files are
included in what you selected as well as their total size. This is what
   you were asking for.

Conclusion: You are either pulling our leg, or using Mac OS X 10.0 or
10.1. Any PowerBook, that ran either of these two versions of Mac OS X,
other than the very first G3 model, is also capable of running Mac OS
10.2.x. I suggest you upgrade in order to solve your problem.

   But then you said:

   > I use Spotlight
   > exclusively.

Huh? Spotlight was introduced in Mac OS X 10.4. So what version of Mac
OS X are you using again? Are you telling me that doing Get Info on a
group of files in 10.4.x opens a Get Info window on each one?

OK. Sorry I can't help you on this one. I know the Finder understands
NFS volumes, but I can't help you regarding networking to them. I have
   no experience with it.

I don't see the problem, personally. You're asking modern EFI firmware
to deal with an OS that requires ye olde BIOS firmware. So the EFI
firmware needs some code added to deal with the discrepancy. What's the
   big deal?

I agree with you on this one. The way it is supposed to work is you can
make any update inactive as you choose. Somehow Apple chose the iPod
updates to override this protocol, basically forcing them on you or
nagging you to install them time after time. Very annoying. I suspect
some Marketing Moron (tm) instigated this dopey idea. I have no interest
in installing it either, and I don't.
