   Right (but as we might agree in clipped parts) the worst horror stories   
   (on any platform) might be from people who did just go out and buy any   
   old thing and hope it works.

   I went out yesterday, after that last post, and did a quick google for   
   people looking for "digital camera drivers" in "comp.sys.mac.*"

   I did actually learn from this thread that there are 3rd party sources   
   for low-cost camera drivers, but I think it still shows the legwork   
   involved.  Someone who just made the impulse buy of a $20 to $50 camera   
   probably won't have it just work (though IOXperts) is a great resource.   
      
   So that's really the point.  You may have pre-narrowed your choices to   
   Cannon and Olympus, but anybody elese is going to have to do the legwork.   
      
   It is part of running a minority platform.
