XPost: soc.culture.usa, alt.psychology       From: smith@webejebe.com              I agree with Frank. Unfortunately, I doubt that the school, the police, nor       a lawyer working on contingency will take the girl too seriously. I wanted       to press charges for assult and battery against a bully in high school, but       the police never made an arrest even with evidence. But on the other hand,       the police will issue someone a vulgarity ticket based on a bumper sticker       or publically joking about the holocaust. I read some story where some guy       was suspended because he made a joke about "taking a bong hit for Jesus."       But you see, these went up against the majority or at least the powers in       charge.       I think she has been unduely harrassed, but that's the nature of our       culture. Our media really plays up sex, and really pays women to sell sex,       just look at all the advertisements done by Madona, Lopez, and Spears.       The other day, I walk past a really young girl with her mother. The young       girl had her shirt unbuttoned, showing off her cleavage, but not her       breasts. I remember seeing Jennifer Lopez in such a pose, but Lopez can       afford a army of bodyguards. "Girl," I though, "you are really teasing the       dogs by doing that." I am sure that she loved the thrill, but I also worry       that some guy might one day give in to his basic instincts. She was really       playing with fire. I know that she wants to be the center of attention, but       the price might be a bit too high. The problem is that she [and the media]       also creates a climate where other women are seen as sex objects.              "Frank Arthur" |
