|    Scientific American article on false mem    |

XPost: alt.psychology, sci.psychology, sci.psychology.psychotherapy       From: dank@nugget.org              I was reading a recent special edition of Scientific American with       brain and mind as its theme. One of the articles was about false       memory implantation and its connection to the "satanic ritual       abuse" hysteria that periodically grips America.              The article focused one woman's experience with false memories       after she visited a psychologist to deal with stress. She had       hoped for some advice and perhaps an antidepressant pill, but       instead her "therapist" drugged and hypnotized her and made her       "remember" horrible events including being forced to consume a       human infant during a satanic ritual. She is traumatized by it       and can't even go out in public because any little thing can       trigger memories of torture and cannibalism.              The worst thing is she paid good money for this abuse and not       only doesn't she get a refund, she is expected to pay yet       another "therapist" to help her recover from the trauma induced       by the first "therapist." The second hypnosis will reveal that       she was actually abducted by aliens and given an anal probe.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
