   Medicine in general is an evolving science, they learn from the past and   
   also from thing as they advance.   
      
   So, as such ideas change, we would not go back to blood letting and the   
   general use of leeches, there are modern treatments, and no doubt some of   
   these modern treatments will change as science advances.   
      
   People change, and Doctors and Psychiatrists are people, over the years   
   religion has held sway over a lot of thing and it does not like change,   
   gradually religion has lost a lot of its control, and science has advanced,   
   and with it medicine and psychiatristry.   
      
   Even now religion is trying to stop various medical advancements, stem cell   
   readily comes to mind.   
      
   The Catholic faith it seems is also against artificial insemination and   
   genetic engineering.   
      
   So in answer to what was wrong previously let me say science, medicine and   
   psychiatristry have all thrown off some of the dark ages thinking that held   
   them back, and have moved ahead.
