By the way, I take issue with that crap too.

the USA might be running scared of paedophiles, predators, quacks etc.
and the UK media might be trying hard to make us all afraid here too,
but 'these days' are the same old days that we've been having for
hundreds of years (oh, I forgot, your country doesnt have history...).

There *hasnt* been a sudden massive increase in instances of child
abuse, we've simply got better at spotting it.

Some simple advice to children (eg. dont take sweets from people leaving
out of cars etc.) will make them just as safe as they were when I was a
kid, provided the parent is doing his/her job regarding the things the
child cant understand. Sure, I lived on the edge of a village and some
kids live in cities - but I always knew better than to wander off in a
city, despite never being explicitly told that it was a bad idea.

Too much is blamed on society collapsing around us, when it plainly is
not doing so. The media love to tell stories though.

I find it *bizarre* that the advice people give children has changed
from "Dont go near strangers, and if they grab you, run like hell" to
"dont go near paedophiles, this is what they do to children". Like
children dont know that if their parents think someone is bad they need
to stay away. What are we trying to do, terrify them into line? -
   because that never works.

Its a parents responsibility to protect children from the world, yes,
but the world isnt THAT bad for the most part. Dont believe the media!

(I would think all good conspiracy theorists ought to understand that!)
