My son is dx'd AS and is intellectually impaired. I have a       circle of acquaintances who are carers of children with AS and 30% of       them have children who are *below* average intelligence. The assumption       that *all* AS people are highly intelligent is highly damaging in that       often more is expected of them than is possible. They are often       "overtasked" and there is invariably an assumption that their "inability       to grasp" is a social problem when it may well be a problem of below       average intelligence (as indicated by conventional testing).              The measuring of the intelligence of AS children via conventional IQ       tests also not reflect their intelligence in "splinter areas". I       personally tend to dismiss the conventional measuring system, as despite       my son's "ratings" he is often more aware of, and conversant with, other       things that my other highly intelligent son cannot grasp.              kev.........returning to asa              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
